A BIT ABOUT our team

we’re driven by discovery

Our lab is dedicated to predicting the impacts of anthropogenic change on biodiversity dynamics, as well as the subsequent effects on ecosystems. We’re always looking for new lab members that are driven by a curiosity for how nature works and a desire to build a better future through robust models that inform conservation strategies.

apply to the lab

  • We are always excited to meet prospective undergraduate students interested in biodiversity science. Please note that research in our lab is highly computational and never involves wet lab work or field work. If you join our lab, you will be expected to learn how to manipulate large databases and code. If you are still interested, please email Dr. Jarzyna at jarzyna.1@osu.edu. In your email, please include a summary of your relevant research experience and attach your CV.

  • We are always excited to meet prospective graduate students interested in macroecology and biodiversity science. If you are interested in joining our lab, please reach out to Dr. Jarzyna at jarzyna.1@osu.edu. In your email, please include:

    (1) A brief description of your research interests and, in particular, how they overlap with the lab’s focus;

    (2) Whether you are interested in an MS or a PhD program;

    (3) A summary of your quantitative background and relevant research experience;

    (4) A CV which includes professional references and your GPA;

    (5) Whether or not you are eligible to apply for an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (deadline mid-October). I expect all prospective graduate students who are eligible to apply. I’m happy to discuss research ideas and provide feedback on application drafts, etc.

    Also, check out the entry requirements and deadlines for the EEOB graduate program.

  • We are always excited to meet prospective postdoctoral scholars! If you are interested in macroecology, biodiversity science, functional ecology, or scale dependence of biodiversity, please contact Dr. Jarzyna at jarzyna.1@osu.edu. Tell me about yourself and your interests, and please attach your CV (with references) as well as one or two relevant scientific publications (or manuscripts). Please feel free to contact me as early as 1-1.5 years in advance of your doctoral defense – this will give us time to strategize in terms of funding and define research questions that are of interest to us both!
